Mark Negron

Training Experience
This is Mark Negron's timeline as a dancer major. He did not grow up to be a dance major nor was taught any lessons outside of the real world. Everything he knew about Dance was from Raritan Valley Community College. His instructors are Loretta Fois (Director of the Dance Dpt.), Marissa Aucoin, Lauren Beirne, and Kathleen Almafitano. These instructors have helped Mark develop his techniques in dance and have shown him what it takes to be a dancer and a choreographer.

Since Covid-19 interfered, Mark wanted to continue learning about dance and take a Modern Technique Class with Marissa Aucoin and Lauren Beirne. His dance instructors and classmates believed Mark would make a good dance major, so he decided to double major in Exercise Science and pursue his AFA in Dance.

The first dance class Mark ever took was Modern Dance, taught by Marissa Aucoin. During his time at Raritan Valley Community College, he was completing his Exercise Science degree. This semester, everything was shut down because of the Corona Virus. It was at this point that Mark was interested in learning more about dance.

Mark's ballet technique class is taught by Lauren Beirne and Kathleen Almafitano. He learns about Laban's Graph Dance as he takes Dance Improvisation classes. Additionally, it explains what an element of dance is in greater detail. Furthermore, he has taken Introduction To Eurythmics, a course he didn't understand much at the beginning of the semester. The Plastic Anime and a storyboard are two assignments he thought were great ways to gain a better understanding of the class as the semester progresses. Emile Jacques Dalcroze's Eurythmic helped him to understand what musical concepts are used throughout dance movements. Eurhythmics, solfège, and improvisation are three equally important elements of Dalcroze's method which Mark used for one of his choreographies “Don’t Lose Hope”. (On his Painting Page, you can find more information about the storyboard)

With the help of his instructors, he develops techniques and begins to take more classes with them. He studied World Dance History with Marissa Aucoin. It was Mark's first time ever taking a Ballet class, taught by Lauren Beirne. Loretta Fois and Marissa Aucoin were his instructors for Modern Technique. He took a course called dance ensemble which was more like a dance company. The students perform their choreography at K-8 schools and also senior citizens' homes as part of the Dance Ensemble tour.
